Fremont Tribute: Neb. lawmakers vote to keep campaign-finance law
Nebraska's Fremont Tribune reports the Nebraska Senate voted down a proposal to lift a restriction on the amount of contributions state candidates may accept from organizations. According to the report, "Sen. Scott Lautenbaugh of Omaha led the effort to nix the campaign-finance law that, among many things, limits the amount of money legislative candidates can receive from sources other than individuals. Lautenbaugh argued that the limit - next year it will be $46,000 - drives dollars underground to so-called independent-expenditure groups that pollute campaigns by launching negative attack ads that are difficult to counter."
